Japan Economy Grows Lackluster 1 Pct In Oct-dec

Slower growth in China and other major markets has taken a toll on exports, which cut 0.5 percentage points off growth at a critical time for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's recovery program. The preliminary data show the economy grew an estimated 1.6 percent in 2013, the Cabinet website Office reported. That was only slightly stronger than the 1.4 percent expansion in 2012. It was the fourth straight quarter of expansion since the economy emerged from recession in late 2012, and gained momentum on a combination of strong government spending and aggressive monetary easing. The Bank of Japan's monthly monetary policy meeting begins Monday. Ahead of the release of the latest data, the central bank was expected to keep monetary policy unchanged, while promising more action if necessary to cushion the blow to consumer and corporate demand from a 3 percent sales tax hike that takes effect April 1. As ABC News points out, Perry has not been on Twitter since Valentine's Day and a rep for the couple could not be reached for comment. So does that mean something big is coming? The ring doesn't actually look like an engagement ring -- there is a lot of metal on it and it doesn't really look fancy -- but, hey, you never know.

The system works by removing the usual arbiter, an NGO, and putting money straight in to the hand read more... of poor people to spend on whatever they want. Faye hopes the approach will make donors think about more about giving to non-profits will they do more good with the money then the poor could do themselves? In this world, cash transfers could play a role like index funds play for private investors: They could be a sizeable share of your philanthropic portfolio and a benchmark used to evaluate more expensive, actively managed investments, wrote Jacqueline Fuller, Director of in the Harvard Business Review.
